The central goal of this project was to arrive at a conceptual
site plan for a new King Khalid University campus that is to be
located in the vicinity of the city of Abha, which is located in
Saudi Arabia's Asir province.
There had already been an international design competition for
the campus' plan and architecture, sponsored by the Prince Abdullah
Research and Consulting Institute of King Saud University, for which
Professor El-Shakhs was a member of the jury. The goal of this studio
was to arrive at a plan that would be comparable to other competition
entries (without addressing architecture in a formal way) as well
as to arrive at some unique ideas that might be incorporated into
the final campus design.
At a minimum, the project was required to include a master plan
for the site and initial vision for the design of the campus. In
addition, the final plan was required to include conceptual planning
for the College of Medicine, Main Administration Building, Main
Library and the College of Arabic language and Social and Administrative
Science.

material pertaining to the competition, can be found at: http://www.kkuproject.com/.
