The
Association for Children of New Jersey honored the long-time
efforts of Herb Green as an advocate for children at its statewide
conference on May 17 at the Woodbridge Hilton. Herb has been
a child advocate and behind-the-scenes influence on improving
education for New Jersey’s children for over 40 years.
He is the founder of Schoolwatch and the Public Education Institute.
The June 23, 2003 roundtable, co-sponsored by the Association
for Children of New Jersey, focused on School Readiness. Speakers
were U.S. Senator Jon Corzine, New Jersey Governor James E.
McGreevey, Dr. Steven Barnett, Rutgers Graduate School of
Education, Dr. Susan Cole, president of Montclair State University,
and Cecilia Zalkind, executive director of the Association
for Children of New Jersey. Approximately 300 people attended.

recently received grants from the Fund for New Jersey and
the Schumann Fund for operating expenses for FY 2003-04
Dr. Philip Mackey has begun work on the 2004 edition of New
Jersey Public Schools under a grant from the Dodge Foundation.
